30th August -6th September
6th-13th September 2022

A dam release river in the Pyrenees, the Noguera Pallaresa runs 45km on a daily release. It offers kayaking for all abilities, including a championship slalom course running through the centre of the town.
We’re heading over in September and running a two September sessions of kayaking in the sun. These white water 6 day courses are being run by Andy McLaughlin and Liam “Neeson” Green

Cost per person: £600, including 6 days coaching and accommodation.

The Pallaresa is a fantastic river in the Pyrenees, it is a dam release river (every day) so guaranteed water (and sunshine*). There are 40kms of paddle-able river, with lots of forgiving yet still challenging grade-3 and a couple of grade-4 sections. The town itself has a great coaching venue on the championship slalom course and 2 x world class play holes.

The accommodation will be in the local campsite (400mtrs from town centre) and we will be paddling in and out of the campsite. The campsite also has a pool which we will be using for rolling practice.

The aim of the course is to replace Luck with Skill, Hope with Technique and Anxiety with Confidence and above all BELIEF.

Focusing on Connectivity, Posture, Power Generation, Edge control, Edge Change, Trim, Speed, Attentional focus, and Decision making on advanced water. However, it is your course and we will work with you to tailor the course to suit your experience and goals. We will also do a number of rolling sessions in the campsite pool and on the river itself. The Noguera Pallaresa is the perfect coaching venue, with guaranteed levels and a wide variety of river conditions, locations and, of course, sunshine*.
Our aim is to improve your all-round paddling skills, allowing you to scout new rapids and features, identify lines, plan your run, driving your boat and using momentum to get your boat in the right place, at the right time moving in the right direction. Allowing you to approach rapids with belief that you will get to the bottom in your boat. We will use video analysis to break down your paddling and help understand in greater detail the improvements you can make.
At the end of the course we will have a 1 to 1 debrief and work out a progression plan that suits your paddling style and aspirations.

A willingness to learn and get out your comfort zone, Ideally confident on grade 2 and 3 rivers, with a number or different rivers under your belt, having a roll is ideal but not essential, we will be doing rolling practice in the campsite pool.  You should expect to be out of your comfort zone for some of the time and trying new things, we will be paddling for 3 or 4 hours per day.

The river runs for over 44km in a beautiful valley in the Spanish Pyrenees, the river runs beside the road for most of its length allowing easy access. The river is a centre for Rafting and last year held the world Freestyle championships. The closest airport is Barcelona, approximately a 3-hour drive from Sort. We will stay walking distance to Sort, which offers great food at a range of budgets as well as supermarkets if you prefer to cook for yourself in your accommodation.

Camping Noguera Pallaresa

The campsite is perfectly located to make the most of the river and offers reasonably modern mobile homes with self catering facilities. The campsite has a bar serving food and a pool and is on the river (a handy get on/get off point!) and a five-minute walk from Sort and all its bars, restaurants and supermarkets.

Day One: Tuesday, travel from airport, arrival and settle in to the accommodation on the camp site.

Day Two: Warm up then basic skills on the local lake, afternoon on the slalom course working on the morning’s skills.

Day Three: Warm Up then running bottom half of the Classic section in the morning down to campsite, using some of the skills learned so far. In the afternoon back onto the river and down to the slalom course for more skills training, rolling session in pool

Day Four: Warm Up then running the full Classic Section back to campsite using everything we have learned so far. Lunch on the water, paddle back to camp. Rolling session in pool

Day Five: Warm up then running two of the lower sections including the stunning gorge section. Rolling session on the river.

Day Six: Warm up, then run the Classic in the morning and a lower section in the afternoon

Day Seven: Warm up, Where we go to be decided amongst ourselves, but most people want to run the classic section on the last day.

Day Eight: Back to Airport

The weather is normally warm and sunny around the 20 to 25 degrees mark.  Shorts and T shirts are the order of the day. At night, as you are at altitude, it can get chilly so pack some warmer clothes too. It is worth noting that “The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain”, with the plain being “green Spain” or the Northern sections, including the Pyrenees. In other words, pack a waterproof just in case.
